24-25 Sharks with big UFA signings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharksdoee</b></div><div>I'd probably pass on that Pesce contract, it's going to age poorly.</div></div>
Gotta add some quality to the D core, there's a need for a true top pair Dman... any other suggestions?

Opening Night
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>A few tweaks Duclair and Barabanov have a really solid chemestry so far in camp so those two together would be good, and Hoffman Zadina Hertl has been a consistent pairing. Starting Eklund on the 3rd line isn’t a bad idea, however I expect him to move up quickly.
Couture is likely to miss the start of the season per reports.
And Thrun and Rutta have been paired almost exclusively.
I would probably throw Knyzhov on 2nd pair over Burroughs, his shot improved and he has had a solid camp.
I do expect Macdonald to go on waivers and is likely picked up due to his cheap contract. Be nice to move 1 more LD and free up space but it might not happen.</div></div>
Didn't realize we were so close to opening night already! Guess Cooch starts on IR then. I wonder if that would open up a spot for Bordeleau to start season with the Sharks

Finishing touches
15.8M in Salary going back to Sharks plus the 3.5M retention would make it a tough deal for Sharks, would need a couple deals in place for Ruuta/Petry and DeSmith/Khakonen, I can see why the 3rd team aspect got rumored.

Fixing Logjam
I get the feeling that Sharks are gonna send down everyone that doesn't require waivers to start the season (Eklund, Bordeleau, Merkley & Knyzhov) and give the vets the room to dig themselves a hole.
Simek could join them in the minors too, but I think he fits the high compete mandate from Grier so we may again see a Vlasic-Simek 3rd pair.

If I'm the Sharks, and I have 4 overpriced contacts on the books, I'm looking for futures alone. Maybe Grier has other plans, but I cannot see them being competitive with that much dead cap space. Isn't in 3 years is worth more: Florida is more likely to decline in 3 years than next year. Calgary would be wise to keep that pick (unless it is for Meier).</div></div>
Sharks would be dumb as hell to trade Meier right now. He's part of the next core.

As much as everyone wants Vlasic gone on CF, we already know it won't happen this summer given Joe Will's comments. We may get lucky and it happens next summer

Kinda used the formula of the Hagel to Tampa trade but with only 1 first. Seemed reasonable for a winger that's a good top 6 and would be a great 3rd line winger with a 2.5M cap hit.
Noeson is a AHL/tweener at this point mostly just to load up the Barracuda

Extension time for Meier 23-24 roster outlook
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dr_Invictus</b></div><div>I really like Meier, but it would be difficult to convince him to stay with so many bad contracts on the books. Not many teams can take on those contracts so San Jose is either buying them out or retaining salary and trading them. Hurts in a flat cap era. I honestly think San Jose should tear it down now and stockpile picks for 2025-26. When the cap rises and they can shed contracts with less term relative to the cap.</div></div>
Ek65 is rough until that cap jump in 25-26, buying out Vlasic next summer gets rid of the worst one.
Hertl & Couture will hold us over until we have a Centre prospect developed. Bordeleau probably takes over 2C in 24-25 giving Cooch either 3C duties or he can play a wing spot in top 6.
I don't think it's gonna be terrible after this season. The kids are gonna get better and revive the older guys a bit. Still think Sharks get a top 10 pick in 2023 draft and then end up with late 20s or early 31/32 pick from Canes in the deadline deal.
If LaBanc comes back strong this season and puts up 0.7pt/gp before the deadline in either 22-23 or 23-24 I could see him getting moved as well

I have a feeling they are gonna play hardball and have to keep all the kids in the AHL that are waiver exempt (Merkley, Knyzhov, Bordeleau, Eklund,) to begin the season I could see them waiving Simek after training camp and sending him down if nobody claims as well to save 1.125M on his cap hit.

I can see MG trading him just because he doesn't compete that hard for the puck being a smaller D-man. Will be interesting to see what he does with all our D on NHL contracts for the coming season, we definitely have to make some moves or throw RM & NK back in AHL since they are both still waivers exempt

Timo likely gets Grier ROCK HARD based on how he wants the Sharks to play going forward.
