I really like Meier, but it would be difficult to convince him to stay with so many bad contracts on the books. Not many teams can take on those contracts so San Jose is either buying them out or retaining salary and trading them. Hurts in a flat cap era. I honestly think San Jose should tear it down now and stockpile picks for 2025-26. When the cap rises and they can shed contracts with less term relative to the cap.

Carolina definitely declines unless Barabanov has a monster season

Ek65 is rough until that cap jump in 25-26, buying out Vlasic next summer gets rid of the worst one.
Hertl & Couture will hold us over until we have a Centre prospect developed. Bordeleau probably takes over 2C in 24-25 giving Cooch either 3C duties or he can play a wing spot in top 6.

I don't think it's gonna be terrible after this season. The kids are gonna get better and revive the older guys a bit. Still think Sharks get a top 10 pick in 2023 draft and then end up with late 20s or early 31/32 pick from Canes in the deadline deal.

If LaBanc comes back strong this season and puts up 0.7pt/gp before the deadline in either 22-23 or 23-24 I could see him getting moved as well

Kinda used the formula of the Hagel to Tampa trade but with only 1 first. Seemed reasonable for a winger that's a good top 6 and would be a great 3rd line winger with a 2.5M cap hit.

Noeson is a AHL/tweener at this point mostly just to load up the Barracuda

He didn’t have a good year until this year where he scored 21 goals in 55 games with the hawks.

Hagel’s contract also gave Tampa more than 2 seasons with him and he had over 20 goals in 55 games. Barabanov doesn’t score many goals. I don’t think a 1st is totally out of the question. If it’s anything less I would say just keep him.

i have to agree with most Barabanov won’t get us that return and the only way he would is if he improves on last year and at that point why trade him! plus his chemestry with Hertl and Meier is what might keep Meier here!
