Most of those guys are 30 year old former AHL players. Valamaki’s a big kid and a recent 1st round pick with lots of potential. Not sure what you mean about him not playing. He played in the AHL last year and wasn’t really given a chance in the Nhl. Calgary’s got arguably one of the best D core in the league. So there isn’t really a spot for him on our team. Valamaki next year would probably be in San Jose’s very weak D core. Not really sure why you be complaining about giving up a 4th and a 5th for a good prospect with tons of upside.
Well, just looking at history on capfriendly, it looks like he has a lot of injury history. Lots of articles about it...
2018-19: 44 games, ankle sprain
2019-2020: 0 games, torn ACL
2020-21: 68 games, 49 were in CGY during shortened 56-game COVID season
2021-22: 44 games, lower body injury
So my comment about him not being able to play seems supported... and SJ really should really be stockpiling picks in their current state of sucking. Yeah, his age and potential is a positive but it's still a big gamble based on his history. Guy has been absolutely plagued, and maybe if was another position, like RD, I would be more interested. It would make more sense to do a trade of players instead of futures, but not sure if CGY wants anyone from SJ.
