Huge overpay for Chychrun. He can had for less. Otherwise I like the roster.

I see at least two issues with your bottom six forwards, and I don't think adding Chychrun and Stralman compensates for them.

He cleared a lot of cap space and got retention. I think Arizona says no to this, but I’d make the move just to get myself some maneuvering room.

I hate these 5 or 6 or 7 assets for one types of trades creates soo many organizational holes that once the big main window trying to win in ends there is very little hope in extending it. Considering the players that need to be signed during that window seems very risky

What would those issues be? I think holloway mcleod pulju could be a strong 3rd line. Yeah the 4th isn’t fantastic but I think it’s serviceable

I get your point, but there’s no guarantee the oilers can keep mcdavid or draisaitl in town once their contracts are up. Yes 6 pieces are going to Arizona but 2 are roster players (Barrie, Foegele) who have cheaper replacements (Bouchard, Holloway). Let’s say that you’re overpaying AZ with Schaefer to take on those contracts (and to retain salary). The trade is then essentially Broberg, Lavoie and a 1st for Chychrun. Maybe this creates holes in the future but their chances at a cup before McD/Drai contracts expire are likely better off letting go of a top D prospect for a current top 4 dman.

Yes, maybe he could be had for less, but have to overpay for retention and to get barrie/foegele off the books. Oilers prospect pool is decent so I think it’s worth giving up a few to make this happen.

Deal built around broberg for chychrun I'm not for but willing to listen depending on how able to make the cap work. I personally don't see how without causing a bigger hole elsewhere. Barrie in my opinion shouldn't be in any conversations for at least another year still need him alot more than most fans recognize.

I agree Barrie is more useful than most think, but with money being tight I just don’t love his cap hit, and would prefer flexibility and more of a shutdown guy. I have faith in Bouchard being able to fill the PP1 role and continue to develop his defensive game, so I really don’t see a reason to keep Barrie around if you can replace his production cheaper (Bouchard stepping up, signing a veteran like Stralman).

There is risk with that third line, but the potential is quite good. it's the 4th line and lack of depth that are problematic. I's difficult to reconcile going all in if Devin Shore is a regular in the lineup and Derek Ryan is playing centre. Unless Shore really impressed at camp, I think he's going to see very limited playing time. Ryan is much more effective playing RW and taking faceoffs on his strong side.
