That Girard deal is terrible for NY imo. Palmieri isn’t getting traded for futures with Aho. And San Jose can’t afford Varlamov. The trade itself with the sharks is fine I guess but I don’t c the point to any of those tbh.

Also a four year deal for Romanov carries him to UFA. And if you want to sign Dobson for 8 years, which won’t happen btw, you have to raise the AAV by at least million. Ur not locking Noah Dobson in for less than Jacob Trouba.

All of this is just factual statements regarding their cap situation. The Girard trade could be viewed as a plus for NY in theory but that’s just ur opinion. Telling someone to “shush” when they r just pointing out cap issues seems unnecessary tbh.

why would SJS give up a 3rd for a goalie of similar level who makes literally twice as much? this makes zero sense. especially when you figure sharks have 3 legit NHL goalies with an AHL goalie with tons of NHL experience. sharks need to move a goalie not trade for a more expensive backup.

That’s another good point but I was really just looking at the draft pick/financial aspect of this. Moving Salo and Pageau for Girard is an overpay imo. They can’t replace what JGP does for them and Salo is a good prospect. Adding a pick to that deal not only hurts their cap flexibility but reduces the number of tradeable assets they have.

Thats easy. Because Varly is the superior goalie.

Reimer at his best is just a good backup. Varly at his best is an above average starter.

Avs are moving Girard becaue they need to shed cap. Sharks are moving a goalie because they need to shed cap and have too many goalies. Consider other teams needs.

Honestly the isles r better off keeping Pageau anyway. I was disappointed by his play in the first half, but you could see how much better he was in the second half of the year when his wrist was fully healed.

I’m not even saying Pageau is the better player, but he is probably more valuable to the isles than Girard would be if he ended up on the bottom pair d anyway.
