Because a few months of Kane will not win NYR the cup, and will only please Kane pretty much when he get's back his favorite linemate.

Besides value of Kakko and Lundkvist are still relative low comparing to what I think their potential is. So even from a assets management it is poor.

With that said, of course it would be interesting to see if they can repeat the magic of the past

Its been said a thousand times already. Not trading young assets like Kakko and Lundqvist for a Kane rental. And NO, the Rangers cannot sign Kane to a new deal.
