Is Holland done

Created by: ceeque84
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 4, 2022
Published: Aug. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not that I think he should be. But is it possible that Holland thinks his roster is complete once he gets McLeod done?? There has got to be some trades coming. No way they start the yr with no cap space & only 20 roster players.
So who's getting traded?
Pujli? Foegele? Ryan? Barrie??
My choice would be to trade Foegele & Ryan. Clears up $4million cap space & both can be replaced with either AHL call ups(Holloway) or cheaper UFAs(Gagner, Sprong).
Still not a fan of the Janmark signing, total waste of cap space.

Agree they will try and move those guys, but not going to be cheap. There are a lot of teams looking to move cap space out, lucky EDM still have some high 2023 draft picks to sweeten a deal

I dont think Barrie will be moved until next summer... they just dont have the pieces to replace him & the odds of getting a cheaper replacement in a trade are pretty slim.
I think trading Pujli when they lack Right shot wingers through out the entire organization is absolutely insane right now. But sadly I still think he will go.
Foegele & Ryan should be the ones to go. Ryan could even be burried in the minors, fingers crossed someone picks him up off waivers... if not, he would only be 250k against the cap playing in the A.

No one is ever done really. The problem is that teams with cap are gonna try to really squeeze the teams that need it. No one is just going to take those guys. It's just were in that wait it out portion of the off-season.

I think they should just bury Ryan in the minors where it would only cost them 250k against the cap. Better then paying a pick to move him. Keep Barrie until next offseason. That would just leave them with Foegele to move.

EDM should definitely pay to get rid of Foegele. It is the simplest solution to their problem. Waiving Ryan is probably the easiest move to deal with him, actually saves $1.125m so only $125k cap hit remains. Replace him with a league min player and you save $375k. Gives them space to ice a 22-man roster.

Oilers are in a good spot. Foegele could be internally replaced and I personally don't see it costing much if anything to move him. My bet is Holland wanted both Jesse and yamo settled before exploring what to do with foegele. The fact he hasn't been moved yet doesn't mean the cost to move is high just that Holland has to follow a certain order of business first. Decent bottom six forward who makes a somewhat fair wage for his contributions. I don't buy into this narrative that EVERY other team will hold the oilers over the fire and make them pay. Just takes one gm to see foegele as a free upgrade in a future consideration type of move. Good age decent experience there is lots to like about the player.

You are right that he is easily replaced, but it won't be easy to move him. Cap is tight all around the league. No one wants mediocre players on overpaid contracts esp with multiple years left. There are about 15 teams that want to move guys like Foegele and not many takers. You will likely have to pay a lot more than you want to in order to move him, but there are teams like Chicago, Arizona and Buffalo that will take assets along with someone like Foegele
