We'll see how Alexis plays, but I doubt he'd sign that. He's going to want a short prove it deal or to get PAID. I don't see him wanting lower cap with term. The kid showed up to his draft interview with Gatorade and Bauer merch on display for his endorsement deals, I would guess he tries to work the system like Tkachuck did.

The contract comparison I had in mind was Drake Batherson. Laffy and Miller’s contracts are very difficult for everyone to predict right now though.

He might want that, but he would have to improve significantly to be worth that deal. He only had 31 points last year, that’s not worth 4.8 mil. The potential is still there, but he needs to show he’s worth it to get Paid.

Jack Hughes also had 31 points in his sophomore year (he played 1068 minutes that season and Lafreniere played 1105 last year, so it's a lot closer than the game difference suggests). If the Rangers start giving Lafreniere bigger roles then I don't think he'd have to improve "significantly" to earn $4.8 mil.

You’re using Jack Hughes as an example, but Jack Hughes in his 3rd year was well over a ppg player. He improved dramatically. In his sophmore year, he was also getting significantly more TOI/G than Lafreniere’s. Lafreniere has yet to earn a bigger role, he would need to improve to be given one.

Yeah right. If Pavel Buchnevich couldn't net this return then neither will Filip Chytil.

Right. Apples & oranges. GMs passed on Buch @4x 5.8m. Chytil is a big young C, that takes time obviously, and will be 2/3C @3x 4m ish. GMs would line up. Plus people sleep on Blais, Johnson is not that great of a prospect and might not even sign with BUF.

What makes you so certain that those said GMs won't do the same with Chytil at said 3x 4m ish, ESPECIALLY if it's a 3C? They don't line up like ducks.
Furthermore, this is a trade involving salary casualties for the Rangers just like Buchie was.

And where are you hearing that rumor about Johnson? Not saying you're wrong here, but him not signing is, well, news to me. I was merely looking for a LD prospect with 1st round pedigree (kinda like how the Rangers got Tony DeAngelo from Arizona for Stepan)
