LD Option

Created by: getzlafshair
Team: 2022-23 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2022
Published: Aug. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vegas offloads Brossoit contract and bring in Stolarz who could perform very well for them on a very low AAV to help relieve the cap headaches that Vegas tends to get into. Ducks bring in Hague to play in the top 4 assuming the Knights can't keep him. Knights also get Mahura who is a young, serviceable defenseman who can play when injuries occur.

There are definitely other goalies on the market that could be considered a better option, however I think Stolarz could be one of the easier to trade for and his cap hit is beneficial to a team that needs to do some gymnastics. Stolarz playing behind a healthy Vegas team, IMO, would be a really good option.

Ducks could probably pay more for Hague as well (like 2.8m or so).

Yeah, I firmly believe Hague doesn't sign for less than Whitecloud did, so 2.8 is probably correct.

I'd do this deal from our side, might even make it Vaakanainen to make it work since Hague would be taking that spot and Vaak is on a two year deal.

I wouldn't like it as much if it were to be Vaaks, I do like how it is now for sure. both sides would be happy imo

a 5 x $2,875,000 sounds like the move to me, similar to Whitecloud

Yeah, but we still have Benoit. It seems like Vaaks and him are going to compete for 3L if we bring in Hague.

I would prefer the trade as is in the ACGM, as I think Mahura is the most expendable for us, but I would send Vaak or maybe a slightly sweeter pick if it meant getting the deal done. I really like the idea of Hague and Drysdale as a pairing.

I agree -- Fowler Klingberg, Hague Drysdale, Benoit/Vaaks Shattenkirk wouldn't be bad imo

I think we deal at least one of Shattenkirk or Klingberg at the deadline so we will still need both Vaaks and Benoit once that happens

For anyone curious what Vegas' roster could look like with Stoli, Varlamov, or Reimer I made Vegas ACGMs for all of them this morning.

"Stoli the Goalie" "Optomis Reim" and "From New York with Love"

I honestly think Stolarz allows the Knights to put together the best roster for next year, since it gives them the cap space to go and find replacements for the point production from Patches and Dadonov in Milano , Rodriguez, or Kessel. Varlamov ears all the cap relief and I don't think they would take Brossoit, and San Jose wouldn't want Brossoit either.

Yes, but we could limp along with Mahura and Benoit until the end of the season if we HAD to instead of Vaaks Benoit.

As mentioned, I like it less than sending Mahura, but if that's what it takes to get the deal done, I'd bite the bullet for 1/3rd of a season until we can go get a RD we like.
