I think Vegas declines this, the cap just doesn't work on their end.

Kerfoot = $3.5M
Carrier = $1.4M

Vegas is $10.2M over the cap right now; this deal would put them $12.3M over.

They've got Shea Weber ($7.857M) and Robin Lehner ($5M) as LTIR contracts for this year, so that gives them $12.857M in cap relief. Meaning they have about $557K in cap space, and they haven't signed the RFA they got in this trade. It just changes the name of their headache from Nic Hague to Rasmus Sandin.

I don't disagree with your assessment. VGK should probably turn this down.

They have Nolan going on the LTIR as well, so there's an extra $1.2 to play with. Assuming you can get Sandin in for $1.7, it should work. But they're better off trying to get Hague for that price.

Could perhaps retain $400-500k on Kerfoot giving them ~1m cap space to sign Sandin to a 1x1.

Then leafs could give Hague the same 1x1 and sign ZAR for 800-850 to meet the cap. Next year the situation would get resolved by using the Holl money to sign Hague to a proper bridge.

Forgot about Patrick, so if Sandin signs for $1.7M it would work.

On the Toronto side, though, I have to wonder if Hague is going to sign for $1.2M. Vegas has had that ~$2.5Mish to play with all summer and Hague still isn't signed. Don't think he's trying to get *that* much but it feels like if he was gonna take $1.2M, he would've been in camp already.

My thinking was a one year deal and then use Holl's money to bump him up

I wonder if they can actually sign Hague prior to the start of the season.

Teams can be 10% over the cap up until game 1, but can't place guys on LTIR until game 1. Someone can correct me on this if I'm a little off on the details.

VGK is currently 10M over, maybe the can't actually sign him right now?

not enough coffee in me to look at the CBA without falling asleep, so can't tell for sure but that is a good point - I know there's a 10% cushion in the offseason and Vegas is over it, so that could be keeping Hague away - still would be the same for them with Sandin then, which isn't exactly ideal.

Vegas is just such an interesting case of cap skullduggery coming back to bite you in the weirdest way, and it's fascinating how much of the CBA they've inadvertently taught all of us.
