Giving the upcoming offseason a shot

Created by: Cjeths
Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: May 26, 2017
Published: May 26, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Beter off waiting another year before buying out Girardi, or not buying out at all, since Girardi is a great fallback if Pionk or Bereglazov need seasoning,-------------------- Praying that Tkachyov likes NY this summer and the Rangers can swing him a deal!----------------------Zibanejad gets a contract that takes him til he is about 28 where he'd be entering his prime and grab a significant raise.-----------------------------Rangers have plenty of in the system depth if needed, Graves, Kampfer, Pedrie, and Day are all defensive options.-------------------Nieves, Gropp, Kovacs, Jensen*IF SIGNED*, Fogarty, Lettieri, and Leedahl are all forward options.--------------------If Hank or Nilsson are injured Halverson, Skapski, and potentially another veteran UFA goalie the NYR sign could all come up and become the teams backup if needed.--------------------------I fuly realie that this is far-fetched, but before you go full-on keyboard Rambo on me please go over everything I wrote and do not take this froma professional standpoint and more of a hockey observer standpoint.

NYR
    RFA Rights to Sam Bennett

Bennett had a very sub par sophomore season, and the flames need a top 6 center a Goalie.

Having Hayes allows the Flames to spread out Monahan and Gaudreau

All three players add vital playoff experience the young Flames could use, Hayes alone has 34 games of playoff experience in only three seasons, and has been to a game 7 in the Eastern Conference Final at only age 25.

Also, Hayes is on a capfriendly contract for the upcoming season making only a little over $2.5 after a 30+ assist and nearly 50 PT. season.
    CGY
    1. Hayes, Kevin
    2. Holden, Nick
    3. Raanta, Antti
    4. 2018 1st round pick (NYR)
    Additional Details:
Kevin Hayes gives them a center who is familiar with Johnny Hockey, Hayes and Johnny tore it up at IIHF and at BC.

Antti Raanta is a solid goalie on a cheap deal, who has proven a worthy starter, I mean he was able to single-handedly win games for the Rangers with the defense he had in front of him.

Holden can be the Flames third LHD after Giordano and Brodie, he's on a cheap contract and had over pts. last year.

Rangers opt to keep 2017 first rounder and trade 2018 instead.
    3.
    NYR
    1. Faulk, Justin
    Additional Details:
Canes have defense aplenty with their prospect pool and current NHL players, and since Faulk has the biggest cap hit it makes the most sense to trade him, however maybe I am wrong and CAR trades Slavin instead, this is all just Armchair GM of course lol.
    CAR
    1. Stepan, Derek
    2. Tambellini, Adam
    Additional Details:
Canes get a versatile Right Handed center with good experience in Derek Stepan, who put up 108 points over the past two years.

Stepan also has 97 games of playoff experience including 3 trips to the ECF and 1 trip to the SCF.

Adam Tambellini gives them a solid center prospect who can crack their squad out of training camp with his underrated offensive skills and hockey IQ.
    4.
    DAL
    1. Staal, Marc ($1,000,000 retained)
    Additional Details:
Rangers take on Lehtonen for immediate cap space.

Stars gain temprorary cap relief as well. Also acquire a solid LHD who, in the right role, is very effective and now on a more moveable contract if necessary.

Stars lack veteran experience which Staal can provide with 100+ game of playoff experience including 3 ECF and 1 SCF.

Staal isn't as terrible as us Ranger fans make him out to be, he certainly isnt't what he used to be, but put him in the right role, say 17-20 Mins every few games and he will give you a sound game.

Rangers Buyout Lehtonen for Stars and Cap Space.

I like. However, I know you probably don't mean for it to be exact in terms of pairings, but as it is, I don't like two rookies playing together

Is it too much to give up for Bennett? Yes, Bennett is 5 years younger and a top 5 pick but Hayes sophomore slump was the same as Bennetts best season so far. Hayes had 2 seasons in the mid 40s points wise while Bennett is a lot younger had his slump of 26 pts, and best season 35 pts. Should CGY add something else even if nothing major?
