Ok, so basically, he got signed to a contract that he never lived up to. Honestly you would think we would have learned not to overpay john Tavares wingers after Matt Moulson. So for the first several years, his contract was mentioned on the short list for worst contracts in the league, like if we retained 50%, how many firsts would we have to attach to move him. Over time, he fought through some injuries, and accepted a role on a checking line, and somewhere along the way, he started to take on a leadership role. I'm guessing he gets extended, his story here has changed immensely, partially because we couldn't move him if we wanted to. At this point it seems like it's a done deal that he's gonna be staying with the team in some capacity when he does retire.
