I'm sorry I dont see the value in this, I think that we are better off with defensive depth as opposed to monahan and his cap hit

Depends, if Horvat is ultimately leaving, having Monahan to see if he fits in might be good for evaluating and negotiating.

But I also don't see Montreal needing Dermott, they have a bunch of D that can play the bottom pairing as is.
