would certainly be enough to get it done. There's just no point for NJD adding another 8 mill asset right now</div></div>
When did NJ clone Mercer? There is no reason for Vancouver to trade Hughes, he's our captain and having an incredible season. It would have to be a ridiculous offer to even consider it.

If that's the asking price for Monahan then he'll be in Montreal until he walks as a UFA.

Toffoli is not worth almost 2 1sts. Quinn Hughes is the Canucks captain and 3rd in the NHL for points this season. I don't think the Devils have anything that the Canucks would trade Hughes for.

No, I think we can sign him to that deal on July 1st and keep our draft picks. It's less about Tanev's value and more about where the Canucks are in their rebuild. If we had more depth and that trade made us a cup favorite then I would do it but unfortunately, it doesn't.

I love Tanev but a 1st is too much for the Canucks to be trading, we just don't have the depth to be giving up picks right now.

Yes, I'm well aware of that. If the Leafs can't get him signed they will trade his rights to someone else.

Greer can do what Reaves was signed to do and play hockey. That's a good deal for Toronto.

The Leafs will sign him or trade him. If he wants 8 years someone will give it to him. Pastranak wanted to stay in Boston and probably took less money to do so. Also, the salary cap should go up significantly next season and players' salaries will as well.

I don't think there's any team willing to make him the highest-paid player in the NHL at 13.7Mx7 and even if there might be that's when Treliving should let him walk.</div></div>
I don't think he will hit free agency; Toronto will sign him or trade him. Either way, somebody's going to pay him what he wants.

NHL GMs don't learn from free agent signings. I expect there will be more than one GM willing to give Nylander $96M over the next 8 years.

If you mean a better balance between cost & ability, then there's a stronger case but there's no world in which Zaitsev or Desharnais would be a better option & no chance Roy and Demelo sign for around 3mil. Walker may even be playing himself into a higher pay category.</div></div>
He asked for 1, I gave him 12. Zaitsev and Desharnais may not be as good but would cost significantly less. Maybe Roy gets more than $3M but I don't see Demelo or Walker getting more if they want to sign with a contender. I also think TVR is on the decline skill wise and has 2 more years left @ $3M.

I expect that Tanev would sign in Vancouver for under $3M. Some others that should cost $3M or less would be Bear, Carrier, Demelo, Desharnais, Lyubushkin, Miller, Roy, Schultz, Stetcher, Walker and Zaitsev. There's 12 for you and those are just the RD that shoot right handed.

Often times there is an inter-division/rivalry tax/premium that gets paid. And keep in mind, VAN isn’t the only Team wanting Tanev, so if they really want him, yes, they may very likely have to over pay</div></div>
It absolutely could happen regardless of what I think. Just like Calgary could trade all of their UFA's for less than a 1st + each regardless of what you think. As I previously mentioned, this is all about our individual opinions.

VAN owes Tanev an act of good faith and that shows he’s actually wanted this time…., you left him with a sour taste in his mouth last time, remember!?</div></div>
But we owe Calgary nothing, so we won't be over-paying Calgary just because Tanev was once a Canuck.
Edit: Of course I mean it doesn't seem worth it to me. Do I need to remind you that none of us are NHL GM's, none of us can actually speak on behalf of any team and this is all about our opinions?
