You're going to have to give me a reason why Seattle does that.

Forgot to add a couple pieces, is that better now?

Basis of the trade is that JP probably fits their system well, and they have a lot of D-men, so trading Dunn isn't a big loss. Also Niemelainen probably fits their defence group of large physical defensemen.

Serious question, is Dunn better than Barrie? Because this looks like a classic case of DOD PTSD to me. You've spent a pile of assets but haven't improved the team.

Okay, but why is Columbus always the "anywhere" team for these kinds of things? They aren't alphabetically first like Anaheim, they aren't an obvious dumpsite like Arizona. Why?

Also absolutely, anywhere else, because Columbus has too many offensive RD as it is, let alone adding an expensive one who's older and worse defensively than anyone they've already got besides Gudbranson.

Personally I do think Dunn is better than Barrie, and significantly younger. Barrie is exiting his prime while Dunn is just entering it. He fits the team's competing timeline better. Also we saw the price teams will pay to get younger with the Huberdeau/Tkachuk trade.

I'd have to agree. Pulling assets from multiple areas of the roster and organization to address one area which is still questionable if even improving.

I can't agree with this. Until last year Dunn was the most sheltered 3rd pairing defenseman in the league, and last year he still played 3rd pairing comp although less sheltered than before. His results v Elites were piss poor too. He's not an elite player at all, so your comparison is way off. He a younger version of Brad Hunt.

You do realize that he's 26 next week, right? And that he'll be 27 shortly after your contract starts? You're paying him $4M to be a weak 3rd pairing guy for his 27- 31 year old seasons. Not good.

Maybe, although I doubt Niemelainen and Petrov have any trade value and Foegele has marginal value at best so its basically Puljujarvi and the 2nd and 3rd.
