Most of these deals are bad... I would not trade Nylander and Gardiner for Pearson and Doughty, let alone throwing in a decent prospect and a pick. Nylander is just scratching the surface and will only get better.

Alzner is not an improvement over who they have. I'd rather run Rielly/Zaitsev, Gardiner/Carrick, Dermott/TBD, than both trade Gardiner and sign Alzner.

Terrible way to spend precious cap space on Alzner and Kunitz. JVR for Lowry just weakens the team. Some people would debate that Doughty and Pearson would be good for the Leafs. Well were did the lead the Kings last year? Not much. I'd take my change on Gardiner, long term Nylander, Bracco and the 1st.

I agree, ideally I would not want Kunitz for 3 yrs----but hopefully offering him a 3 yr deal gives him enough security to lure him to TO. Hopefully he can contribute 15 G and 30-40 pts next year as a 38 yr old, then half that the next season and half that as a 40 yr old. I would sign him for one reason: he has 3 Cups and no one on the Leafs had one anything. Big difference between winning in Jr/World Jrs/college and winning a Cup. I would overpay for his experience.

"Nylander is only scratching the surface and will only get better". Hopefully, for Leafs fans. But not a guarantee. What if he goes the other way, or some of his questionable intangibles turn out to be true. If you'd rather run Reilly, Zaitsev, Gardiner and Carrick as your top 4 D, then I guess you'll never have to worry about winning in the playoffs. Ever. End of convo.

JVR for Lowry weakens the team. For next season, yes. But you're (hopefully) not resigning JVR if you are the Leafs after next season, so why not get a big young prospect who appears that he can potentially play at this level, plus a 2nd rounder. For next season alone though, yes JVR for Lowry is not even close.
