Comrie signed in Buffalo to be the starter. He wouldn't have signed up to be a backup. Marchment turned down better teams than Dallas (most notably Carolina) because he wanted to be around the familiarity of his old coach in Dallas after his dad suddenly passed. Domi took the big payday to play 1st line minutes in Chicago and not be a depth guy that doesn't even get powerplay time. de Haan over Holl doesn't change the fact the organization was still not in a good position on the backend.
