Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2023 1st round pick (MIN)
MIN
  1. Monahan, Sean
  2. 2023 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Monahan should be the Habs’ move valuable trade asset at TDL 2023; trading him with 50% retention would in all likelyhood fetch at least a 2nd rounder, maybe even a late 1st.
2.
MTL
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (NSH)
NSH
  1. Dadonov, Evgeni ($2,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Hopefully Dadonov plays well enough to spark interest in a contender at maximum salary retention.
3.
MTL
  1. Bourgault, Xavier
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Edmundson, Joel ($1,500,000 retained)
  2. Schnarr, Nathan
Additional Details:
If a contender is willing to pay a package centered around a 1st round pick (2023 or former) for Edmundson, the Habs should seriously consider moving him as a mid-term location to make room for the new and upcoming Habs’ D corps.

Guerin wasn't interested in Monahan when Calgary was trying to give him away. I don't see how he'd suddenly want to pay a 1st for him now. Monahan also doesn't put us over the edge into true contender status so it doesn't really make sense to trade for him (or any big name rental, really).

I’ll give you a 3rd that turns into a 2nd if the Wild win a playoff series this year for Monahan at 50%.

Last summer, there was still some serious doubts about Monahan’s health going onwards. Seeing as he seems back to form and is on pace for over 50 pts/season as C2 with average wingers, Monahan’s value at TDL 2023 could very well be a late 1st .

If that’s the best offer on the table for Monahan before TDL 2023 expires, the Habs should actually take it, if only because selling Monahan will hinder their chances of ending up in the no man’s land, draft order-wise!
