OK for 2017/2018 but with all those good players coming up soon with new contracts, the Rangers wouldn't be able to keep many of them. Rangers and their fans should forget about overpaying Shattenkirk, and keep Staal and Girardi as long as possible just for cap reasons. Buyouts are expensive.

When the Caps were eliminated, Shattenkirk said at his presser. That he wants to go where he can be a teams #1 D man. And that's not happening with the Rangers.

McDonaugh is good but he is not an elite defenseman - he is very very good and has some offensive pop but he isnt a stud all around d-man, Shatenkirk would become the #1 D man in NY and run the powerplay. NA keepign Girardi and STaal (above comment) is an awful idea and widley accepted as the wrong thing to do in all facets.

Shat is not, or should not be a 1d on any team. The wrong thing to do is "buyout(s)"! Bad trades are the only way, now or next year...

I am not keeping Staal and Gi for cap reasons. My lineup is meant as a win now lineup, not looking to the future. Staal and Gi are not good enough for the playoffs, the only season that matters.

That is exactly what will happen with the Rangers. Gi has been done for 3 years, there is no other RHD on the roster for Shatty to even compete with. He is from the NY area and is a life long Rangers fan.

Shatty is a 1RHD on most teams in the league, he is still very underrated.
