Not really a fair take here...

At the right cap hit, and utilized the proper way (either 4th line or 3rd line-if 3rd line designed to have more of a defensive/shut down role) Goodrow is a pretty good player. Problem is, he is way overpaid for that type role. But at a Cap hit of 2-2.5M per, Goodrow would be a positive addition to most teams- especially the handful of teams looking at good possibilities going deep in their Cup pursuit.

Not to be that guy but his analytics are bad and down from previous years. He isn't at a caphit of 2-2.5 hes at 3.6 and this proposal only retained like 600 grand. His decline has set in and he is still on the books for another 4 years after this. If he was a free agent last summer taking a 1M X 1 year deal to play on the fourth line could be justified, but getting locked into that contract is a death sentence when managing the cap. Hes the reason you couldn't resign Buchnevich, and i dont feel like being the team who has to trade a excellent player for diddly squat because we go after already declining, overpaid grinder depth defensive role players who are a dime a dozen every offseason.

You’ve got your opinion and a few barbs to stand behind it….but hey- if (unlike Tampa a few years back) you think your Leafs have the blood and guts and character needed to survive 4 rounds of NHL playoffs then so be it. I’m sorry, but until I see that team make it past the 1st round, I’ll only view that team as having a glass jaw- the kind of team Goodrow would most certainly help- but of course at the right price and cap hit going forward. At 2-2.5M (either NYR or a third party obviously eat some salary), TOR would have a heck of a player- as long as he is not miscast in the top 6.

I refuse to accept the narrative that Tampa won because of guys like Goodrow and Coleman. They won because of Point and Kuch and Vasilevsky and the rest of the top players. i Dont accept the fact that Toronto doesn't have character players. Sometimes things just don't go your way and having being in the best division for the last 5 years has a much larger role than lack of " Blood and Guts".

Might not be evident in my last comment, by I really do respect the Leafs- and I'm not taking a shot at the character on that team...and of course- being in a tougher division than most does play a part in the leafs' fortunes...but Tampa is in the same division, and in their situation they realized the value in adding Goodrow and Coleman....not that they were trying to change the team identity- but because having a few guys on the team that could play the grinding game helped Kucherov and Pointe, and others to play their game more effectively. Again, if you think the Leafs have enough of this "in your face element" on the team already, or you feel that they will be able to make a low cost move or two at the TDL to add it, then so be it...fair enough. All I'm trying to point out is that for most teams, if they can add Goodrow- assuming the cost is fair, and enough Cap is eaten- he can be a real good addition. Great team mate, coaches love him, etc...and I don't buy for a second that he is regressing.
