Not sure its mentioned yet but the OS would be AFTER the 2023 draft so the picks would be next years 2024 and 2025. By then there is a better chance the Habs do better in the standings than this year IMO.

And as aside, I don't think the Rangers would/could match anything above only 7M. Not sure they can without trading away a pivotal player on the team which considering their window is now, I doubt they'll do at the cost of a struggling youngster whose going to be massively overpaid.

Honestly, IMO i wouldn't even trade for him if i'm the Habs. Francophone skilled guys always seem to crumble under the scrutiny here and adding that they'd have to over pay to get him also, almost ensures he'd not live up to expectation even more. Its a recipe for disaster.

If a trade will happen and I am not say it is, or should be. At first MTL fans will feel like it is a massive overpay, like with Nils Lundkvist and DAL fans.
But with more ice time and coach like Martin St Louis, he would find his groove again and both sides would walk away happy.
