Aquire futures and still aim for a WC spot

Description
Detroit have a ton on players on IR and LTIR. When they come back, they could opt to trade some players away for futures while still maintaing a playoff capable team.
I get the feel that Detroit could do similar to how NYR did in 19/20. I dont forsee us winning the lottery and getting Bedard, but atleast aquire futures aswell as being in the playoff Hunt intill the Season is over.

-Vrana comes back and replaces Bert, whos been out almost the entire Season. He wont fetch a giant return. I choose CGY due to their style of play, their needs and bc Bert is a Sutter type. They also have space to bring him in. They also have Draft capital. Detroit could be forced to take cap back, or have a 3rd party retain 1.1875m.

-Fabbri comes back soon. He can score, play all forward positions and he is a capable TWF. That makes Suter expandeble. I choose WPG for reasons of idk. Could be any team looking for solid depth.

-Hagg and Pysyk Will be back. When they are back Detroit will have a loggjam at D. Trade One or two away for late Draft picks. Rather that that loose them to waivers when they all have 1y left.

Zadina- Hes a byst, but on a good contract. Hes days in Detroit are over and I think he should get a chance elsewhere. Send him to Arizona. He’ll get playingtime and potentially be a part of their future.

One more player that could be moved would be Ned. Hes lost his touch and could need a change of scenery. Another wildcard team could take a gamble on him for a late pick.

I would not trade Sundqvist or Maata If a team dont overpay us. Theyve played well here and I would not mind If they got extended. Chiarot and Maata would help chelter Edvinsson/Albertsson If they aint ready for top4 minutes in 23/24.

Detroit passes, Bertuzzi @ 50% is worth more than 2 2nd round picks.

Yzerman has stated numerous times, That he's looking at acquiring more 2023 picks not 2024 picks unless it's multiple picks.

FYI You'll be lucky to get a 4th or 5th round pick for Zadina, A 2nd rounder isn't happening unfortunately.

I like these trades. I agree with a lot of what you are saying. Might be off on the return for Bert but it is not far off. I do think Bert's injuries hurt his stock. He missed time last year with an injury too. Maybe just a 1st for bertuzzi, but I like the trade and the rest of them too.

I would rather make a lower estemate than a overpriced one. He is injuryprone and due to that his value has dropped

I agree with you on Zadina, I may have been optimistic on the return. But Im not optimistic regarding Bert due to his injury problems. If we can get a first id be happy, but id settle for the trade i made above. Maybe get Dube included would even out the value.

You are using up all the retention slots we have for only two 2nds and a 3rd. You won't be able to get anything usable back for any of the other trade pieces we have if you have wasted away all retention slots.

Doesn’t make a difference if he uses all the retention spots anyways since they’ll be off the books after this season anyhow with potentially nobody else being traded.

With that being said, the Bertuzzi return is light. We could/should/would get more.
