Having Fun With The Draft Based On SOS

Created by: jonh514
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 4, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Based on SOS, I am projecting the Habs to get pick 4 OA and Florida to get pick 10 OA.

Habs have the hardest SOS and they will continue to fall as a result
Arizona has the easiest SOS and they will win more and pass the Habs as a result
Anaheim have the 8th easiest SOS and they will win more games and pass the Habs as a result

Florida has the 5th hardest SOS and they will continue to hover around 10th OA as a result

I am also assuming players are drafted in this order:

Bedard
Carlsson
Michkov
Fantilli

I am projecting Fantilli to fall based on his WJC being significantly worse than Leo Carlsson and Michkov turning it up in the KHL. I'm ok with Michkov instead of Fantilli even if we have to wait until his contract expires

Notes:

Armia Buyout
Gallagher on LTIR (he's on such a steep decline. I'm ok if he plays, but I expect he's gonna retire early or be in the minors)
Habs via trade get a late pick and draft Hrabal

In that case we maybe draft Will Smith. I don't know how far of a difference there is between Fantilli and Smith based on the age gap. Smith looks really good too.

I like the Hrabal pick very smart. What I don't understand is that Devon Levi was free in the 7th Round and they could have picked him up in 2020, I wonder what more they saw in Jacob Dobes than Levi. Now there is talks of getting him from Buffalo at a larger than 7th round cost.

I really think it was size. Even in 2020 there was a bias against shorter goalies. Levi at 6' (generously) is short for a goalie in the NHL.

Devon Levi is 6ft tall while Dobes is 6'5, also theres the fact that only a few goalies that are around 6ft makes it to the NHL, most are over 6ft tall.
Tbh Dobes isnt too bad himself too.

Smith looks amazing. I love him as a prospect. If we end up outside of top 4, he’s my guy.
