You've given Bunting Matthews, Nylander and Bunting, raises of 11m and the cap has just gone up just 5m. That sounds a losing proposition for the Leafs.
For sure Liljegren and Sandin would be lost to offer sheets if offered just 3.2m.
Fans should realize they have they have no exclusive right to "their UFA", and paying or overpaying for them doesn't really help the overall team necessarily. Squeezing the bottom enders especially the good bottom enders won't work either.

Nylander isn't worth that

If Matthews is worth 15 and Marner is worth 14, Nylander is worth 10.

Marner isn't worth 14

Most 'career contracts' these days feature front loaded salaries and signing bonuses which means the back half is less actual money being paid out annually. They also tend to feature limited NTCs towards the end. Tavares deal is the exception to the rule, but Rielly's is set up like that, so was Hyman's. Highly unlikely that deals for Nylander and Bunting are set up differently than the two last ones. This basically means if the players fade badly, the salary retention isn't steep and they can be moved.

Hard to argue against that when he is pretty much as valuable as Matthews on that team.
