I feel like a pick may be needed on the Leafs side (going to Nashville) but I don't hate this trade at all...

Like Chicago's 1st? Value aside, there's nothing of interest for the Preds in that return.

Sandin has value. He isn't Scott Niedermayer, but he's getting better, and if the Predators want to get younger, he would be a tremendous add while adding cap space with the detraction of Ekholm. Not sure/interested about the fairness of the trade overall, I just think in terms of where the two teams are at, the Predators should be happy with an offer of Sandin to replace Ekholm, whether it needs extra pieces or not, in my humble opinion smile

For that very reason, I think the Leafs would prefer to keep Sandin.

I also didn't notice the 50% retained for 3 more years though, yikes.

Like I said - value aside (though TOR is robbing NSH here) - there aren't pieces the Preds would have interest in. With Josi, McDonagh and Myers, NSH has a lot of cap allocated to LD's with term already. Sandin wouldn't address any needs for the Preds. He's the only asset of note heading to NSH here, but he's a lot more valuable to the Leafs than the Preds.

Yikes indeed. When you account for that, NSH would be paying Sandin $4.125M. Plus they're throwing in Jeannot for free, and taking a salary dump back in Engvall.
