It is not a CUP contending team

Created by: AG_sweden
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2023
Published: Jan. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- BOS game sort of killed the illusion of what this team was perceived to be. And made it very obvious what it is. It is a team capable to reach the playoffs, but will be forced to go to rental hell to get deep, but it will never be enough to win.
- When we have a team like, BOS, DAL or MIN then we talk, perhaps even EDM after their upgrade ;)
- what is this team? what is the identity ? I don't know...
- Kane, Meier, Horvat or whatever will not make this team CUP contender.
- basically none of the "kid line are safe" I just keept Laffy and Kakko because they are cheap to keep.
Trades
NYR
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  2. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
  4. 2025 5th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
- time to prioritize for NYR. They ain't going to keep Chytil and K'Andre Miller.
EDM
  1. Chytil, Filip
  2. Gauthier, Julien
Additional Details:
- EDM gets some much needed depth. To win it for McDavid.

how does taking out Chytil and adding Puljujarvi make them a contender? This move would make them worse.

Do you know that I wrote NOT in my title and if you read the description I make no claims this would make them better. It is although a necessary move.
I'm willing to move more player if needed.

Boston is ripping up the entire league this year, so losing to them isn't that big a deal. The cup is theirs to lose IMO. That's another reason the Rangers should not make any stupid rental trades this year and focus on getting better for the next few seasons.

That is what this proposal is trying to accomplish, long term thinking...
The top guys just isn't top guys anymore, and the young guns aren't top players either, it is a team of whatever players... with NMC, and long term, not the greatest recipe for success.
If they wouldn't sign Trocheck we could keep Chytil. But everything is so rushed in NYR...
Miller is going to get paid and should be paid, the rest I don't give much for right now.

moving Chytil is 5 steps backwards and a waste of development.

So how are they going to afford Miller and him? Signing Trocheck was dumb thing to do and this is the fruit of that.

For sure wouldn’t get too crazy about losing to BOS….not yet ready to concede the Cup to them- but it sure does look like their year. That said…and the fact that the core of their team isn’t young….will be interested to see how aggressive they are as far as going all in at TDL. For NYR I can sense a splash move at the TDL….but reality is even adding an expensive rental, NYR are not on the same level as CAR, BOS, TOR, or a few others out west. So not having both 1st round picks going into the draft they will regret in a big way as soon as this summer. And going forward they need to make whatever moves necessary to extend Chytil, LaF, and Miller. And unless they get good capital back- should also keep Gaut and Krav.

I'm just not sure how they going to make that happen? I agree rental is a waste of assets pretty much. The core guys are just a point per game, they are not being moved and our 1st overall and our 2nd overall are not good enough to cover for that.
Paying Chytil about 4 M to be 3rd center, while having nothing to play with isn't going to help him one bit...
Trocheck is a great player but a bad signing.
They should have not signed him and have the cap space and roster space to keep growing the youth.
Really sad and unfortunate.

Nothing wrong with Chytil around 4M…where he slots in- should be between Panarin and Krav. While Trocheck slots between Kreider and Gaut (maybe Vesey). Then depending how guys like Othmann and Cuylle develop- maybe either (or another prospect) gets a crack.

Letting Chytil go would be regretted way more than Buch…The organization is light on C prospects…and good young centers are really hard to get- yet so essential to success. If the team has a problem getting LaF, Miller, and Chytil signed- then they have to bite the bullet and move a veteran (or 2)- even if they have to eat salary to move.

I don't hate signing Chytil and having him center a 2nd line between Panarin and Trocheck. Keep Kreider/Mika/Kakko together, and then a 3rd line centered by Goodrow between Laffy and Othmann. Why can't Trocheck be the solution to the RW problem on the 2nd line?

I’m not crazy about Goodrow at 3c- especially with those guys. Trocheck at 2RW next to Chytil does check a few boxes- as long as the lack of chemistry between him and Panarin doesn’t continue. My preference here would be to keep Goodrow on 4th line and pick up a 3c…there should be some relatively cheap options available after the season. Mittelstadt? Jake Evans? Just to name a few.

In a perfect world, yes, I would rather keep Goodrow on the 4th line, but in the Rangers cap situation, it may make more sense with him at 3C, with Chytil at 2C. I think those top two lines would be really good and a 3rd line with Goody, Laffy and Vesey (or Othmann) could chip in offensively and also play solid D and play physical. This also gets Chytil top 6 minutes, which is a must if they sign him.
