Next year after keeping Meier selling others at TDL

Created by: Waffelz
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2023
Published: Jan. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Reimer, Nieto, Bonino, and maybe Harrington traded at deadline for a 4th, 5th, 5th, and 7th, respectively. Merkley for a whatever they can get for him, Is be happy with a 4th.

Also assumed Kahkkonen doesn't get any better, barely backup quality, if that. Karlsson stays good, bit doesn't put up anywhere near 100 points 2 years in a row.

Definitely not a contender, unless they somehow end up with Bedard, even then probably not. Defense leaves a lot to be desired, especially considering the massive regression of Ferarro, and goaltending is questionable at best.

The year after this you get Labanc, Simek, Kunin, Lindblom, and Kahkkonen of the books, and buying out Vlasic becomes very reasonable. Jones' buyout cost goes down by over $1 million, and suddenly you have a whole lot of cap to work with, and Karlsson/Couture should still have a year or two of serviceable play left.

You forgot to add Bedard, probably on 2nd line instead of Eyssimont

This is assuming they don't win the lottery, but I would try him with Hertl and Meier, move Barabonov down with Couture and Eklund.

(being optimistic)
I think if we keep Meier we could actually be decent next year. Guys like Nieto and Bonino would be out of the top 9 and replaced by Eklund and Bordeleau.
But yeah I agree, 24/25 might be the year to start getting better. Everything you said in your description, as well as hopefully the guy we pick around #5 will be ready.

Question for all the sharks guys at 5/6/7th overall if mitchkov is still available would you take him?

I personally prefer going with a safer option and hoping someone like Benson is still available. Michkov is doing decent with Sochi now and if he continues to perform well I think you might have to if he's still there that late, but I would rather go for a guy that we know could play in our top 9 within a couple years.

I've been keeping eyes on Cuda, Bords has like 16 goals, why 3rd Line? Cooch and 2nd Line needs a goal scorer.

I'd rather have someone who can contribute immediately, I wouldn't want to risk him being in Russia for 3+ years.

That's reasonable, as long as the young kids can play effectively in both zones at the NHL level.
