In reality I don't think he would, I get this is all hypothetical but he probably signs somewhere in California or Florida maybe, Idk but doubt he signs in western NY.

Just no basis for this statement

Just bizarre statements.

Care to explain how they are bizarre?

You showed how we get a 1st round pick for just a waiver claim.

Then you want to get a 1st round pick <> 3 1sts.

It's just really bad asset mgmt. How am I the bizarre one?

Just because someone was drafted in the first round doesn't mean they are worth a first rounder. Full stop.

Kane 2nd (became a 1st after re-signing)
DeBrincat 1st + 2nd + 3rd
Fiala 1st + prospect

How in the world does Meier get 3 times that?

LOL. Smart to trade 1sts <> 2nds. Right?

And I have no idea what players you are referring to.

If he can find a team with cap space that’s not rebuilding. Western NY will look pretty darn good

You are referring to players based on their original draft slot, which is ridiculous.

I'm done. We disagree on the trade. Oh well

How is that ridiculous? Players drafted in the 1st round have obvious talent, more often than not.

I assume you are referring to Mitts?

Guess how many 2nd round picks have more points than him from 2017-2022?

Detroit says yes.
San Jose might bite. I think they will get a better offer though. Maybe swap mitts for j.j. or Quinn or add a 2nd.

I'm sorry what? You think meier gets a 1st, a 2nd and 2 top prospects? That is insane

Either/or dude. I talked about swapping not adding.

What Lysowski tweeted this week makes sense and puts context to the hype people are making out of LeBrun's prior report that the Sabres "talked to the Sharks about Meier":
Sabres GM Kevyn Adams' contact with the Sharks regarding Timo Meier was simply due diligence, according to a source. A check-in to see what it would cost. Nothing serious at this point.Adams has said that he will always explore every avenue to improve the club.

As sexy and flashy a headliner trade for Meier might be to fans salivating for "win now" mode, it just doesn't make sense with everything that Adams has said in the past. Sure, Meier fits the age group criteria and definitely offers an injection of talent but the cap issues are a legitimate concern - until Adams has secured long-term extensions (which will each be pricey ones that eat up a lot of their current cap space) for Cozens, Dahlin and Power and knows what he has left to work with, why would he trade high picks and coveted prospects for a player that reportedly wants a $9M/yr long term deal with any new team? Maybe if Meier is still available after July 1st, when Adams will most likely have already extended Cozens and can begin discussions with Dahlin and Power, things might change but I think a deadline move of this magnitude is unrealistic.

Maatta would help stabilize the 3rd pairing and is a definite improvement over Bryson but, as a pending 28-year old UFA, he's a rental, plain and simple........and Adams said he's not interested in rentals nor giving up assets for one. If he adds anyone, it would be someone younger with more term that fits their M.O.

I don't believe it is just due diligence...what else are they to say yeah Adams is going to go all out to acquire Meier. Like I've said Meier gets at least a DeBrincat return if not a tad more

It's not about a win now mode, it's about a move that will help this year as well as years to come. Meier is 3 mos younger then Tuch so he fits perfect. He gives the Sabres a legit 2nd line. It's not as easy for prospects to come into the NHL and live up what they did in their minor careers. We are seeing that with Quinn and Peterka and that's not saying they won't develop but it may take longer than you think.
Thompson is a prime example of that.

As for the cap, it seems all the contenders find a way to make it work so I don't think that is a worry.

DeBrincat got 1st + 2nd + 3rd and was 24yo at the time of the trade. Why should Meier get more?

D-cat was coming off a 41 goal season and look at him now. 15 goals.

Buyers remorse for something more than DeBrincat.

Wait...he has played with Brassard as his center the majority of the time this year bc norris played 8 gms and was injured
Now he is playing with a rookie center that has all of 2 games experience.

Compare all that to playing with Patrick Kane...kind of a big difference wouldn't you say

Really hope Buffalo doesn't do something like this, just keep the picks/prospects and continue to build from within.

I wouldn't risk those assets on Meier, if he doesn't want to extend in Buffalo you've just thrown away good assets, yes you'd get something in trading his RFA rights but it won't be as good as your 1st and Savoie.

You don't make that trade without a trade and sign in place otherwise I agree with you as that would be a major gamble that if it back fired would cost Adams his job.
Which was explained in the description
