No team will give Detroit extra for that sure. But here's the reason why Detroit won't accept less...they don't have to. The Canucks could not afford to re-sign Horvat and everybody knew it. It was take the best offer available or let him walk for nothing. Detroit can easily afford to re-sign Larkin at the number he wants. Yzerman is just negotiating to get a slightly more team friendly deal. As he should. That's his job. Detroit is not desperate to trade Larkin and they will get him signed if negotiations come down to the wire where as that would not have been possible with Horvat. Hence if a team wants to pry Larkin out of Detroit, the deal will be heavily favoured for the Wings and Steve Y will get absolute maximum value out of parting with his captain.

Everything is easy for the wings eh? Just always going to fall perfectly in place. When Seider and Raymond need extensions after giving Larkin 8.5 or more a season it's all going to be easy.

That's a pretty big contract for a guy who's best season is 70 points. I am not sure I'd give him that much money.

Tell me you don't know anything without telling me you don't know anything.

Every team in the NHL would give him 8 million.
Roope Hintz got 8.45m with a career best 72pts.
Brady Tkachuk got 8.2m with a career best 67pts.
Patrik Laine got 8.7m with a career best 70 pts.

Between 8-9 million is what guys get for 70 points these days.

Cap will be higher then. Detroit could give him 9 but that extra 0.5m will come in handy when it's time to extend Raymond and Seider. it's worth negotiating about.
