If Jeff Carter waives to Calgary I will personally charter him a private jet so he can get the hell out of Pittsburgh

Seems win-win. PIT could use the Cap Space and/or some Muscle and CGY could use Carter’s Right Shot and FaceOff Ability. Not to mention he’d be a good Mentor for our Young Guys

I'm kinda in the camp of keeping this years 1st and 2nd. There's not really any rentals that catch my eye this year. I liked the Jarnkrok deal last year but it was really costly and didn't work. Kinda scared me away from the rental market.

I think they'll add a depth D likely at the cost of a 4th or 5th

Agreed, I wanted Jarnkrok and Toffoli but felt we paid a premium for both. Toffoli’s worked out fine but Jarnkrok didn’t help. Throwing away a 5th for Carpenter sucked too

My thoughts with Barabanov & Duclair is that we could flip them in the off-season to get similar assets back OR if they play well, we can move someone else out to keep them, like Dube or Mangiapane for 2023 Draft Picks since we have Pelletier, Zary & Coronato ready to step in

Jack Johnson doesn’t Bring much Offensiveky but he’s a Big Body who Blocks Shots, Hits and is Good on the PK

It's funny because the Jarnkrok deal was actually more costly than Toffoli. Yes, Toffoli cost a 1st, but Heineman was a prospect they didn't draft and wasn't under contract and Tyler Pitlick wasn't a fit. Jarnkrok at the cost of a 2, 3 and 7 really hamstrings the Flames from trading futures for rentals. Three picks for 1 goal. Ouch.

Jarnkrok should have only cost a 3rd + 7th for the retention, maybe the 2nd 50% retained if there was competition for him, but not all 3

Yeah the way Treliving explained it was the ask was the 2 and 3. The retention cost a 7th. There was a lot of interest in Jarnkrok. Which is why the biggest mistakes are always made at the TDL.

I like Calgary and Pittsburgh so this sucks to say but the Flames don't want Carter. Lucic is better for the team. I like the Duclair trade. I also like the Barbananov trade too but mostly because I don't care who Meloche is lol. We'll keep Mackey over Jack Johnson.

Carter > Lucic + we need a 4C and Right Shot for PP#2 and Mackey can’t play defence 😔 whereas Johnson can 😊

Mackey’s not gonna get played. Gilbert has surpassed him. He’ll become a Group-6 RFA = UFA so better to have CHI try him out and sign him. We need another Big Shut Down D-Man who Kills Penalties. Could be Gilbert, but Johnson has way more experience and is decent on the PK

I understand that Carter could be better than Lucic offensively. But overall I believe Lucic brings more to the team. Lucic's cap hit makes him expendable but if he was being paid 1 million we probably wouldn't be having this conversation. I want to trade his cap hit too but I don't want Lucic gone. Carter is done and I believe there are better 4c out there for less money. I watched Johnson with Pittsburgh and I don't think he's the answer. If we go after anyone it should be Schenn from Vancouver. Just my opinion.
