Tight Budget - Someones Gotta Go

Description

I've looked at it from every angle, and the only conclusion I've come to is that we have to buy out (or trade) Goodrow. If we don't do that, we're going to end up giving a bridge to either Chytil or Miller and it's going to be much more expensive for us later. Even as is, we have to bridge Laf here and that could end up costing us.

I chose to buy out Goodrow because that actually gives us 200k extra cap space next year and 100k extra the year after, which, as you can see, is actually very helpful. It does hit us with a $3.65M cap hit in 26-27, but the cap should have gone WAY up by then, plus Panarin comes off the books that year so I think we'll be able to handle it.

I didn't re-sign Kravtsov, Hajek, Gauthier, or Zac Jones because I figured they are all gone at the 2023 TDL. And Barbashev came over at the TDL and fit in really well which is why he agreed to only a minor pay raise.

I’m with you. I’ve been doing the same calculations and determine a very similar result. Goodrow is probably going to have to go.

Although, I have thought about this..and I get it, it’s crazy..but what about trading Panarin? Hear me out. Suppose the playoffs are a dud, and Panarin is a dud specifically, they mutually decide to part ways waiving his clauses. Then we trade for Meier resign him and keep virtually everyone they need to keep/sign. 9 mill goes to Meier for 8 years.

Finding a taker for Panarin would be difficult obviously, but maybe a Seattle something like that. They’ll be due for a big addition soon. Idk just something I thought of because these Meier rumors don’t make much sense unless they can retain Meier long term. And they just can’t do that without trading Panarin, and keep the youth at the same time
