Why I want Toews:

I think some expectations should be set for Knies. You really think he just drops into a top 9 role on a contender?

Honestly he can. How come Caufield could do it when his first game happened in the playoffs and not Knies? If Knies can't keep up, he will just need time in the AHL if anything. He's a PWF, a rare breed of a prospect hence why everyone wants him. If he doesn't score any points for his first year but throws nasty hits, he will have a spot in this lineup any day of the week

Also, after his plays in the tournament again, he could be hungry for more and have that energy in the playoffs that we have been missing. Imagine being a 20 year old and playing for a chance to win the Stanley Cup

If you acquire Toews, you keep him at Center to maximize his skill set.

I think there’s a possibility of Knies coming in and doing well, but it shouldn’t be relied upon as the leafs main TDL add up front. Wouldn’t be against adding Toews but I think the leafs can do better than him. Especially considering if you add Toews, you can’t really add anyone else.
