Created by: HabsRealGM
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2023
Published: Feb. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Resign Drouin on a 1 yr deal for 1.5-2.5M see if he can finally reach his potential

Habs pick Will Smith, Benson or Yager at 6/7 unless they miraculously win the lottery otherwise all best are off.

Assuming Monaghan isn't healthy enough to trade at the deadline. Trade his rights at the draft to someone who wants to sign him for a 5th round pick?

I don't how the Jets would decline this if they know he doesn't want to play there and will go somewhere else. He's an RFA so it's almost the equivalent of an offer sheet. Jets get two Centers (that's not a need?) one of the them a 5th overall pick, plus an established two way third line center possible 2nd under a good contract and grade A defensive prospect ready for the NHL.

You'd rather have the 12th overall pick this year - likely a lower tier center than Turcotte and Mesar plus what?. Jets consider this for sure at the draft if it's offered to them.

Lol they don't 😆

Turcotte is not what he was when he was drafted and still in the ahl not a lot of value rather have something else that has more upside. Dvorak would be a 2c how has that worked for him so far huh? He is a 3c that is overpaid and would be below Lowry so he is not of interest unless he's more of an add on if the deal didn't have a roster player. Strubble does nothing for us as he's unsigned and may not even sign with us. Mind you he isn't a player that fits any needs.
Recap 5th overall pick that has done nothing up to this point and the chance he becomes a top 6 player is fading.
Dvorak who is basically a nothing asset for us at a large cap hit (rather play lucius or lambert at 2c before Dvorak lol)
Strubble who is unsigned and fits no needs
You question why we would decline and it's simply not enough and not a need in any sense of it

I truly hope we keep em. We need some veterans to play with the kids. He scores, hits and skates and seems to be a great locker room guy. Need him out there for protection of Suzuki, Caufield, Dach. And he can play with those guys. He's also on a great contract. Would be silly to give him up for picks. I don't see any value in trading him unless it's an insane offer. Which may very well happen.

Anderson certainly has intangibles that teams would want. However, his numbers, age, and AAV aren't trending in the right direction in a flat cap system. Calgary has too many players in a similar situation and the cap space hasn't got better for most teams..

Fair points. If the Dubois MTL romance is a real thing and the draft is a likely scenario what would WPG be looking for then? WPG isn't really trading from a position of strength either. It's almost like moving a player with a no movement clause. Teams knowing Dubois only wants to play in a certain place. Can't really drive up the bidding war price. Almost have to settle with what you can get.

If that's your best offer and he extends I'm afraid that we'd look elsewhere for a first roster player and good prospect as a rental retained
