That's a crazy take. Harris is at best a #5 rn and Matheson is a #3. Maybe in terms of where the team is, but we could dream Harris becomes another Matheson in his prime.

Nah Harris is already better defensively
Won't ever be a skater like Mike and his shot will never be as hard
But Harris is better at everything else outside the physical part as well

I mean Harris is playing 3rd line minutes against weaker competition. Matheson is playing tough minutes against teams top lines. They aren't even close to comparable right now. Matheson is miles better than Harris right now.

Miles better ... Harris against top lines would do good as well

Yes miles better. Harris will be a decent top 4 in his prime, but Matheson is that now. Way better.

Not sure what you mean, he's a top 4 defender playing like a top 4 defender. He also happens to be the best defender on our team.

If tomorrow it's game 7 of the Stanley Cup final, I would take Guhle, after Savard and then Matheson
IMO he is MTL 3rd best defenseman

Meant RN as in injuries included. I think Guhle & Matheson are hand and hand, but I'm still taking Matheson.

1. Matheson
2. Guhle
3. Harris
4. Edmundson
5. Xhekaj
6. Savard
7. Widemen

Savard is a literal tire fire to me. Can't pass the puck and can't transition. He's good at standing in front of the net and that's it.

He is very good defensively, but I would say his first pass are better than Matheson first passes
Matheson is better taking the puck himself out of the zone because all he does are stretch passes that end up being icing call
Savard is underrated, he's just slow and fat lol but he has been good

I like the chemistry between Harris and Kovacevic.
Matheson and Guhle are ahead of him and there's nothing wrong with that.
Savard is a placeholder but has been performing well lately and Barron is slowly progressing.
Guhle being injured is unfortunate, as we'd do well to see what he can do with Barron while Matheson is taking the heavy load.

There's literally no stats that says he's good at defense. His Defenses EV % is 27% and his War% is 17%. He gets top line ice time so that would likely get better with less TOI, but so does Matheson and his Off and Def is better analytically. All Savard can do is sit in front of the goalie and crosscheck people out of the way. That's his only use, not good anywhere.
