Bring In The Youth. Team Looks Great. Just Need Some Luck And/Or Goaltending In

Description
The last 2 years Caps have been getting good but older guys in the summer. Maybe just let the young guys take a chance. You see both Cup contenders being helped by their younger guys, though PIT is exaggerated b/c they get to play with Crosby and Malkin, anyone looks good with them. Still, we need to start trusting our younger players. There are only three 30 year old+ players: Ovi, (31), Niskanen (30), and Orpik (36).

Bura (22) is ready for a break out year, can hit 25-30 goals if he stays in top 6, which he better.

Vrana (21) will be a top line player one day soon.

Barber (23) has top 6 capabilities.

Boyd (23) has 3rd line center potential.

Schmidt (25) finally getting that well deserved 2nd pairing time. Caps defense will improve dramatically getting him over Alzner.

Connolly just turned 25 and can be a 20 goal scorer. He just hit 15 goals in 66 games and being jerked around the bottom 6.

Wilson (23) on that 2nd line is a gamble but he's worth a try. He has great chemistry with Kuzey and he can create space for both Ovi and Kuzey. Can be a 20 goal scorer if he parks in front of that net. If he can't then move Vrana or Barber up who will be there one day soon anyways.

Would love to get rid of Orpik and we could easily do it but maybe he could be good mentor for Bowey (22) who has top pairing potential

On top of this Stephenson (23), Walker (23), and Djoos (22) are all ready for the NHL. Stephenson and Walker are bottom 6 players while Djoos could maybe hit that 2nd pairing.

This also leaves about $4M in cap space to make any changes needed.

Tom Wilson is and always will be a 4th liner. I know he looked OK on the 3rd in the playoffs, I just don't believe that he can do that consistently.

I think he can if he plays with skill. Playing with Ovi and Kuzey all he has to do is park himself in front of the net and he can slap in 20 goals. It's such a shame he was ruined by Oates and GMGM, just terrible development. Should have stayed in juniors and gone to the AHL. If developed properly and he could have been a Lucic. But it's also not the end of the world if he stays a 4th liner. Like I said, Vrana or Barber could step into that role.
