Florida is kinda in Calgary’s situation with a few differences Florida has a bunch of big cap hits and you have duclair who’s going to want a payday and knight and Lindell and they already have massive cap hits in players for Matthew and barkov and duclair is going want at least 5 million for a few years so that’s 24 million at least for 3 players with more players expecting big paydays and the team has no real direction just like the flames and also the panthers really need defensive players like badly so take a cap dump call it a lost season draft a good defensive player in the draft and use the three million to get some good defensive help and they get a second that could be a late first depending on what the flames do which could be a defensive gem and we are retaining cap how do you not take it

Florida has a lot of cap coming off the books next summer. Duclair doesn't hit free agency until the year after when the cap goes up. No reason for them to sell low on him now.

You can't just draft a good defensive player, especially without a 1st rounder this season. Lundell is one of the few exceptions of a player who came into the league with an already pretty strong defensive game

With the new stuff going on with Bally sports the cap might not go up a lot so that’s a problem and you didn’t understand my message I was trying to say draft a kid who’s got serious upside to be a good defender also if the cap isn’t going up a lot and duclair has an extra year then what happens if he has a breakout year he’s definitely asking for 6.5+ minimum for at least 5 years that’s over 27-28 million in a almost flat cap change year with knight and lundell still having to be paid. Knight especially

Draft them when? The 2nd or 4th round? The 3rd round next year? You grossly underestimate development curve if you think any draft pick is in those rounds is going to have NHL impact in the next 4 years
