Preparing Against the Juggernauts

Created by: Carleton
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2023
Published: Feb. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Adding O'Reilly and Acciari were great additions, but I feel like this team is missing that one final piece.

Line 1 - Your standard goal scoring line, I wouldn't do much to change this.

Line 2 - I fear O'Reilly and Tavares are too slow to play together. Splitting them down the C would give us more depth. Jarnkrok should be okay playing on the wing here, and when he did for a short period of time, I liked how it looked.

Line 3 - Your standard shut down line. With a mix of goal scoring and physicality, this is the line you match against the Point - Kucherov line, or the Stamkos - Cirelli line.

Line 4 - Good mix of two way game and grit. Kerfoot is undersized here, but he adds a lot of speed to this line, and I like the way ZAR and Kerfoot have played together the last two games.

This leaves very little assets for any more moves. Although, I can't help but feel like McCabe would be a clear upgrade over Holl if it could be done. What do you think?
Trades
1.
TOR
Would be included in some sort of trade, or sent to a team for a mid pick due to his contract size.
    ANA
    1. Engvall, Pierre
    Additional Details:
Pierre has been a decent bottom 6 player for us. My gripe with him is his lack of physicality. Sure, he can score 20-30 a season, but he's a liability in the playoffs. All that size but he's scared to get into a board battle when it matters. His point total's aren't what we need. We need a deeper, more brute bottom 6. Not like 3 assists in 7 playoff games is anything special.
    2.
    TOR
    1. Trenin, Yakov
    Additional Details:
Trenin is a brute player capable of facing hard matchups. Signed to a cheap contract for the next two seasons, adds a lack of physicality to our bottom 6.

    What about this idea.....
Line 1 - AM ROR Willy (Allows AM to be more offensive minded, and free flowing.. I highly doubt he'll want to move off C, but it might work. ROR is a pretty effective play maker as well)
Line 2 - Bunts JT MM
Line 3 - Kerf Acciari Jarnkrok
Line 4 - ZAR Kampf Engvall

I actually suggested this to one of my buddies. RO as our 1C and Matthews on the wing. Both are Selke caliber forwards anyway, and this allows Matthews to cheat a bit more with our zone exits.
Still, I'm not entirely sold on Engvall. He had a good defensive play against Montreal, but I don't know...

I wish Keefe would experiment more with the lines, though.
