    I’ve gotta believe it would cost more that a 4th to retain $1m for 2 more seasons.

    Jokiharju has similar deployment and ice time to Dumba, with similar results. He's younger, cheaper, signed for another year AND an RFA after that. Why would Buffalo trade him for a rental that isn't an upgrade and add a pick on top of it? They may as well stick with Joker who hasn't hit his prime yet and will ideally end up as their 3rd pairing RD.
