Perhaps a few years ago that deal may have done it, but today, that deal does not get you Wheeler, an All-Star and captain. It's tough to find that calibre of player, so wouldn't it be more worth it, and perhaps more affordable (asset-wise) to try and target a player like Ilya Kovalchuk? I feel like the Blackhawks' Artemi Panarin might also be a good fit. Although, any deal with the Blackhawks would require some potential cap juggling.

Jets are going to have to make this move this year or next as 3/4 of their roster is due new contracts including all the kids. I would be willing to add more (Strome or Beauviller??) but Isles need RW not LW and this helps both teams now and in the future.

Why would a rebuilding team like Vancouver take on that contract and take away ice time from their young wingers in exchange for a 4th?

Agree on the premise, but I think a little bit more would be needed. What's the situation on their goaltending prospects? Soderstrom could be a valuable piece to move in Dal Colle's stead.
