Carter won't waive

Maybe. But it worths to try. If Carter would be traded after that to a better team, with 50% retained, than it'd be possible and I think he could waive his clause. A 3-teams trade. I've seen much crazier (and so called "impossible") trades than that in NHL.

I think it would take a lot for a man at that age to move his wife and kids again. I think we're better off spending our brainpower hypothesizing next year's roster with him on it

Yes, it makes sense. If I were him, probably I wouldn't want to be traded for such reason. But here, I'm trying to think as a GM. And Hextall or whoever will be our next GM must try to trade him. A trade involving Flyers could be possible for obvious reasons. Hextall has a good relationship with their team because of the time he spend there. It helps the cause as well. As I said, it worths to try. We would have nothing to lose and everything to win. We'll see...

1 No one is giving anything for Carter because he controls any move with his NMC.

2 How is Soucy a 4M dollar Dman?

3 Marcus Johansson isn’t any good and certainly isn’t worth 2M.

3 Why put Rust on the 3rd line?

Man, I have no idea where to begin. You think Schenn is a player which would solve our defensive problems (he does worth not even 1M/year) and you don't like a player like Soucy, which is playing very well defensively for Seattle, btw. And yes, I think he worths 4M, cause he's a very solid d-man. More consistent than almost all our current d-men.

As for Johansson, he was very solid for Washington in this season. Much better than last season. If he keeps playing like that, he'd be a very good bottom six add. I put Rust in 3rd line cause he can bring scoring depth to our bottom six. Tell me, who will score in our 3rd line with Carter, Granlund and Heinen??? Even in this scenario it'd be interesting to test these lines. Granlund is a playmaker and always scored many assists playing along guys which can score goals like Malkin and Bunting/Zucker. He would help much more playing alongside Malkin and a guy like Bunting or even Zucker.

As for Carter, I admit it'll be very difficult to get rid of him. But as I said, it worths to try. Specially to the Flyers.

Soucy plays on a 3rd pairing in Seattle. He’s about a 16 minute a night defenseman. That’s not the kind of guy I want taking over up top as a LHD. He’s a nice upgrade from Dumo who’s done for, but he’s at best a 2nd LHD and about a 3M a year guy. Every million matters with this cap. Luke Schenn has had a better season on a really bad defensive team. He’s exactly what any team needs in the bottom pairing.

The point is to improve the 3rd line by giving Granlund a player who is a shooter. The options are either a trade for one or to find a UFA.

We could put Pettersson alongside Letang and Soucy along Petry. No problem. I'd like the idea. If he signs for 3M, that'd be even better. As for Schenn, as I said, I don't think Rutta is the problem in Pens defense. Our defense was playing much better before he injured. Then it falls apart. His physical presence is something that we don't have besides him in our blue line. I think he's better than Schenn. No brainer to me.

As for Granlund, unless he surprise us, It'll be great to trade him in offseason. But I can't see Hextall doing it. It'd be a tough pill to swallow after all the things he did to get Granlund. The only way to see he being traded it'd be with another GM. Which is a great idea, btw.

If we don’t have a new GM I’m afraid we will end up with JT Miller and no MP to play as our top LHD. I can see him doing it and finally sinking this team for the rest of the decade. He has to go.
