Dream goalie situation via Vegas

Created by: CaptJosef
Team: 2017-18 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 15, 2017
Published: Jun. 15, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vegas takes Gru and Raanta off two teams with little else to offer, we take them and compensate with 2 picks and 3 decent young players and a decent backup in Neuvirth (I'm presuming Vegas take Fleury as starter).

Hextall gets his tandem and a chance for two decent goalies to battle for a number 1 NHL role.

yes that would be a dream, but I don't think it's close to enough to get Vegas to bite. Stolarz and 2nd round pick are nice for maybe Grub but don't think they'd want to swap Raanta for Neuvirth/Laughton when another team could beat that offer by offering a 2nd/3rd round pick, you know?

Yeah I guess. I mean I absolutely don't see this happening but 3 young players and two picks is a nice start for Vegas and it's not like Laughton, Cousins and Stolarz have no NHL upside. If they had Fleury / Neuvirth in net it's a solid pair you'd think and locked up for 2 years. But like I say, it's the dream scenario!

I agree. Cousins/Laughton/Stolarz could be solid additions to Vegas. It really depends what other young guys they can take though.

You dream of acquiring back up goalies? If they have so much potential, Vegas wouldn't dream of dealing them for a 2nd Round Pick, Neuvirth and Stolarz. The rest are fringe NHL players that Vegas will be full of.

I recognise the difference between a career backup and someone whose earned a shot at being a starter. Vegas needs to acquire assets a couple of picks is a good start (that's how Hextall has built our prospect pool up after all), Stolarz gives them an AHL / near NHL prospect goalie, Neuvirth serves as their backup for now. Cousins is a decent bottom 6 guy and Laughton could be a 'change of scenery' guy. They are both about as young a player as Vegas could draft and still have potential.

Of course Vegas could just keep both goalies but Raanta could walk next season and there are other decent netminders they could also peruse. They would change 2 freely acquired assets into 3 young players with NHL upside, a backup goalie for two years, and two additional draft picks.
