Kinda tough to believe that Slavin will go from being the best left shot D the USA has to not in the lineup over the next three years.

Maybe based on name recognition. Swayman’s career average is better than Demko’s career highs. Playing for boston certainly helps, but there’s no denying that he’s been the superior goaltender this year.

One is a backup on a stacked team and one a starter on a bottom feeder. Of course Swayman is going to have better raw stats

He was the starter in the playoffs last year. Not exactly a traditional backup. Ullmark just went nuclear. He’s played better than Demko this year, there’s no way around that.

Demko had a bad 15 games because he was injured the entire time. He has found his form recently. Swayman has too small of a sample size

Ahhh, excuses and a changed argument. Got it. The small sample size is completely valid, however all I said was that its undeniable that swayman has been the superior goalie this year.

I mean he has been better this year but Demko has hardly played because he was injured. He was also injured at the beginning of this year when he was on a cold streak. Demko is still by far the better goalie

He’s played five fewer starts than swayman….

I think that’s kind of a ridiculous statement to make for two reasons:
1. It’s not like swayman came up, was okay, and then had a hot streak. He’s just been good since setting foot on NHL ice. Really since being drafted. Was elite in college, was elite in the AHL, and has been upper echelon in the NHL. I understand that it’s a small sample size, but 79 games with a .917 and a 2.28 GAA can’t really be ignored. Since the 20-21 season Swayman ranks 9th in save % and 2nd in GAA (25+ starts to weed out the guys that just had a cup of coffee). You can say that Demko is by far better if you like, but he just hasn’t been.
2. Goalies are weird, and it is somewhat of a, “what have you done for me lately,” position. We’ve seen guys fall off drastically before, particularly after injury and a loss of confidence. It happens.

A far more reasonable statement would be, “Demko is a more proven goalie, and we shouldn’t rank swayman ahead of him due to small sample size.” To say he’s by far better is kind of bonkers at this juncture.

Your whole argument went down the drain when the only stat you bothered to use was GAA and sv%. Both of those are heavily team dependent. On a better team, any goalie will have a high save % than normal.

First off, i don’t think you really understand the argument.

Secondly, okay, I’ll play.
Tampa Bay Lightning have been pretty good with Vasilevsky
Carolina and Toronto have been pretty good with Andersen
Florida has been pretty good with Bobrovsky
This list could go on for a while

Swaymans numbers are either on par or better than those guys and many more that play for good teams.
