23-24 Blues 20

Created by: Jchockey12
Team: 2023-24 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 21, 2023
Published: Mar. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Simulated Tankathon once and blues went up to 2nd.

Bit of an overpay for Werenski but I think that Doug would do this.
Personally I'd rather have fantilli but there aren't many options to rebuild the defense

Fantilli is worth more to us than Werenski would be. This makes no sense.

Dude. Buddy. If we get #2, we are keeping that 100000000% and we are gleefully taking Fantilli. And there are myriad options for rebuilding our top 4 LDs. It's a smorgasbord of good value LDs this summer.

Going off the above, idk why you would do that.

But CBJ take that 1000%

If you read my description I'd also rather have Fantilli. But how does this blueline get fixed? You have to give up a lot to get a lot. You're getting rid of the Krug contract and getting one of the best young LD in the game.

Yeah, I read it, but Werenski is not worth anywhere near that package, not near worth his salary and not even the type of LD the Blues need. And he's on his second major injury in three seasons. The Blues need a J Bo type more than anything. And there are loads of those available for much less this summer.

You don’t fix it by trading a franchise cornerstone center who is 19. If this is the options you take another development year while the “bad contracts” tick another season of term off.

Werenski is more of a powerplay asset than anything. I’m not saying he’s bad. But that’s where his true value is. If we’re saving the cap equivalent of a 1/2C with an ELC you can afford to have Leddy and Krug be paid 9m over what you would be paying vet min contracts there. Or even just waive Krug if it’s that bad in your mind (it’s not) and let someone claim him or save the cap there. Your proposal makes a bit more sense around pick #9 but it’s still not a great strategy
