Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would prefer keeping Samsonov but we get an asset for trading him or we have to pay a little to move Murray. Hard to keep both with our cap. Woll was an AHL all star this year also and I believe they will give him a shot.

O'Reilly with a clear discount here which I do believe is possible.

Thoughts?

O'reilly is only 32, I don't think he signs that low at this point in his career, he would most likely get a 5x $5 or 6 contract on the open market, don't see him taking that massive of a paycut for that long of a term.

He is well worth 5m a year. I can't argue on that. The number would need to be 4.5m or less to make it work with the Leafs though. I do think going to the Leafs or back to ST Louis on a severe discount is possible.

But time will tell!

What does that mean? What are you thinking? Like or dislike the Samsonov trade?

I personally can see the scenario where Sammy gets traded at the draft. Buffalo would be a good destination in my mind. He can help stop gap and take pressure off Levi for a few years.

That's the thing, if he had no suitors, I would agree, discount for term with St-louis or Toronto.

I just get the impression that teams like Detroit, Montreal, Columbus, Philly and Vancouver could use him to work with the young guys, and give him 2nd line minutes.

Though I would personally like to see him go back to Colorado on a $5M contract, that would be interesting in the west.

Oh I bet most teams would call on him. He is a very interesting free agent.

He would fit a huge need for Colorado as well. That would be scary.

I would personally still give him the 5m a year contract and not resign Bunting in this situation. I like Bunting but O'Reilly would be a higher priority for me.

Agreed. Although we will see if the Leafs keep Samsonov or not. He has shown very well this year for the Leafs. I would be very happy to keep him and trade Murray for the cap space.
