Possible Playoff Push

Created by: Riley_chester
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 5, 2023
Published: Apr. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ducks win the Bedard race and take the next step out of this rebuild. With some new and improved coaching I truly wonder what next year looks like for Anaheim.
Bertuzzi-Zegras-Terry
Giving Z and Terry some scoring as well as a big body presence.

Bedard-McTavish Strome
Reuniting the WJC duo on the 2nd line, (wonder what Verbeek does with Bedard in his first year)

Bertuzzi brings some size and much needed scoring to this team
Shattenkirk on a 1 year for veteran presence
Dumba eats minutes and is an overall great player (GiggywithGibby)
Mike Reilly relieves some of bostons cap issues and Vaaks goes back to boston.

It's honestly pretty much the ideal offseason for this team. I'd like to get a tidbit for taking on Rielly and clearing cap space, but aside from that it's very solid. Unless of course there's no coaching change, in which case burn the whole thing down...

Minor thought here-I think Minty will start the season with the big club, with Zellweger coming up after Mintyukov gets his 9 games in. I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see Luneau getting a look early as well. Zellweger being the only one out of those 3 that can play in the AHL likely sets him back for the first month or so (Which isn't a bad thing!)

All three of the boys can play in the AHL this year. They need to be 20 years old by Dec 31st, of which Mints is the closest cutoff, but eligible.

Really solid ACGM, as mentioned, basically a best case scenario for this off season.

Also as mentioned, the target is Forbort, Reilly could have been had for free, so if Boston wants him gone, they need to sweeten the pot and buy anyone coming back the other way. Reilly isn'y a bad player by any means, he would be great to pair with Drysdale in my opinion, but we could have very easily claimed him on waivers a few weeks back.

Bert is also looking for a big, long term deal, and while his lost season due to injury is certainly going to hurt that, I figure he's getting at least 5-6 years wherever he goes. Conversely, I don't think you can really get Jamie to take that long of a bridge deal, 2-3 years is more likely.

I'd bet even if we get Bedard, he only gets 9 games this coming season with the big club, so that resolves the issue about where to put him in the lineup to some degree.

Given Bedard is too young to play in the A, you think he gets his 9 and heads back to juniors? I am typically on the Verbeek end of the argument in terms of letting young guys fully develop before making the jump, but I cant imagine Bedard has anything further to develop by playing in juniors another year.

Neither did McTavish, but he only got his 9 last season. Roster space is another consideration with Sold and Rico on expiring deals.
