How are they going to sign Knies

Description

Can anybody make sense of this? Jarnkrok is day-to-day with an injury, as is Matt Murray. Per Friedman, neither guy can go on LTIR. With Simmonds sent down to the Marlies it seems that they have exactly $928,754 cap space to sign Knies. This is with no backup goalie, assuming Murray is still hurt. Is this enough money to get the deal done? And can they still use Jett Alexander as their backup on an ATO? Somebody smart please explain.

Essentially, the Leafs had Alexander on a ATO, creating an emergency back up situation to call up Woll for a cap hit of $0 until they non longer need that emergency (when Murray comes back, it would be playoff time by then, allowing them to go over the cap), doing this while sending down Simmonds, allows them to have just enough space to sign Knies with no performance bonuses added into the contract.

He has to play a game to burn a year of his contract (and be eligible for playoffs)

He would, but the signing will prob be after 5 pm est if he does decide to sign
