Debrincat Signs and No moves what you can end up with

Created by: NDoody
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 20, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
DeBrincat needs to make up his mind if he wants to stay long-term in Ottawa or not. It was said on Sportsnet he is waiting to hear about ownership but will give the team an answer by the draft. Also mentioned it seems the line from the Sens is there is a ceiling on what they will off with the Stuztle Thankchuk deals, he needs to stay inline with the 8.2 - 8.3 range they are both in. So we will assume that.

Pinto signs a bridge deal and Grieg makes the team out of camp to form an effective quick 3rd line, or you can also slide Joseph up and do the three top-line formation the sens did for a while and have Giroux and Greig on the same line to help mentor him.

Bring back Gautier on a friendly deal with KElley and Kastlic they would form a very physical and tough 4th line, that still has speed and can pop in a few goals. Gautier and Jopspeh are also PK specialists, which would help the Sens be top 10 in the League PK again.

Sanderson takes the next step with Chychrun riding shotgun and lets Chabot slide to 2nd pairing to get better matchups.
Kleven makes the team and grows with Branstrom helping him move the puck.

Sens stay put with Forsberg (I wouldn't mind moving him for another goalie thou) but the team does a true tandem getting Soogard as many games as possible, and hopefully, he grows and by the end of the season can take over as the true #1 goalie for the Sens moving forward.

Only problem now is the Cap is real tight, and the Sens would have to bank on the trust that the cap is going to start going up a good amount once the escrow balance is paid off next season hopefully.

Cap will go up some and the team will have to make some moves, Giroux will be on the last year of his contract that summer so he could be the odd one out by then.
Sens will also get over $4M in cap space back after next season in Murray's retained salary and buyouts for Bobby Ryan, Colin White, and Del Zotto coming off the books.

Good take but a 20 or 21 man roster is razor thin. I am good with Joseph’s game but he may become a cap casualty.

I hear you, team would have to work transfers from Belleville a lot. But if they keep Debrincat then you are in that situation almost no matter what. I would consider letting Joseph go and resigning Watson, you likely only going to get about $1M or 1.5M in savings, that does allow you to carry JDB or a Brassard (I think he retires) with the team however.

I am hearing Watson wants a multi year so that is a non starter, gotta think Brassard is done. I admire his making the team last year but the rehab he would have to do to get ready for next year would be off the charts for a guy his age. Looking at your numbers i think Brannstrom gets at least 1.5. It is doable but with Cap gymnastics, Dorion would have cauliflower ear from making calls to Belleville during the season.
The fact DeBrincat is hedging on a decision to me means he is going to opt for 9x1, which means one way ticket out of town. Dorion would be wise to queue up some serious suitors in advance.

Then Soogard? Then Branstrom? Personnally, the best move is to move DeBrincat in the offseason, sign Sanderson to the 8x8 (like he expects) and get depth

The more I look at it and the situation with the other prospects coming up, I am leaning on the side of moving him. The real question is when can they get the most for him, and is it worth carrying the 9x1 next year so he can get more goals than move him, or do it at the draft when teams have cap flexibility.

Obviously depends, if you're looking to compete, trade him at the draft and get your assets upfront... looking to stay where you were and the TDL is better to receive the better package (but you'll have to retain)
