I believe Mayfield will get 4.5m+ a year. I suspect over 5m. He averages over 21 minutes a game, as a defensive dman, on a good defensive team. If the Leafs can get him for 3m though, that would be a huge win.

He is not worth 2.5 million someone will overpay but he's just not worth that

yes but he would cost 2m the year after on the cap. I would rather pay the low pick to move him personally. We need all the cap space we can get over the next few years.

He's just big and physical. He gets absolutely caved in when Pullock and Pellech aren't their to do all the heavy lifting. He's a better Bogosian but the same type of player.

Bogo has averaged 14-16 minutes a game for 5 years now. Mayfield is 19-21 minutes a game in that time and New York is constantly a good defensive team. Of course Pullock and Pelech are their leads on the backend. But Mayfield is a solid 2nd pair type of guy. 4.5m-5.5m is very reasonable for a good 2nd pair guy.

I think Mayfield's contract is going to shock you. I am guessing it's going to start with a 5.

He absolutely isn't a solid 2nd pair guy. He's a guy who's been able to cultivate an undeserved reputation based on team success.
