Well yes talent wise it was a trade off of cap space really.
Gourde also makes Trochek possibly expendable

No not at all... it's just cost of doing business moving forward sometimes. 11+ mil is a big hit, plus NY has luxury of former #1 overall pick , hopefully, ready to move into the spot. NOT saying replace production of Panarin. Rather be a legit top 6 winger.
For NY, this type of move is necessary or they probably can't keep all the young RFAs around.
Just signed Chytil, and Kaako, Lafreniere, Miller all require substantial raises, with term being they are all 23 and under.
Them with Fox and Shesterkin are the long term core.
With Kreider and Zib as ' vets'.
Yes will being carrying Trouba's hit through the deal.

Good on you too actually attempt to deal with NYR cap situation. Most Rangers ACGM have Miller and Lafy signed for a combined $6 mil to keep it under the cap. So I appreciate you actually have those guys realistic cap hits. Can't imagine they would trade bread but it's an interesting idea

But moving Panarin isn’t really a realistic option due to the combination of his Cap hit and his NMC. I’m sure there are other places he’d play- but seems as though when he was UFA, his focus was NYC or Miami.

And I get your point that it’s refreshing to see an attempt to balance the Cap….but while 6M for LaF and Miller might be low- it’s probably not too far off IF both guys are interested in bridge deals. And at the moment, both LaF and Miller are probably better served with short deals while the cheaper nature of these short deals works for NYR since it kicks the can down the road…a few years to when big contracts come off the books AND the Cap takes a jump up as a result of TV deals and NHL business returning to normal.

But for now…unless another team offers a massive overpay for Kakko or LaF, the 1st option to manage the cap (if necessary) is to move or buyout Goodrow.
