The winds of change

Description
Name of the game has to be player development over the next 2 years. No more grinding for a playoff spot.

The team needs to get faster and move the puck better, I think this year really showed the limits of what size and grit can do so they need to transition to a higher ceiling game from the high floor game they played. I think it starts from the back end getting better at moving the puck and forwards need to be given more leash to take risks in the zone and get more East-West plays going.

As for personnel, it’s about giving young guys opportunity and letting older players play out their contracts (Zucc and Foligno). The Boldy line needs a puck transporter, that could be JoJo if he signs a low cost deal like I expect or Walker. If Shaw is ready to go come season start, he’s the guy instead of Janmark. And if you trade Addy, then you need a PP QB and we don’t have one in the system ATM. The Johnson signing could be big, he’s a similar player to Faber and could be a nice pick for that 3rd pair and given a shot with Spurg to give that top pair some more puck moving ability. First call ups are Walker/Beckman/Hunt if they don’t start on the roster.

Goose is also the guy to move to open a bit of space or if you wanna get spicy, Foligno is the guy that gets shipped out. Big changes are coming.

PIT is a placeholder. Goose wants to play and his cap hit isn’t prohibitive as a serviceable 3rd pair guy.

Writing is on the wall. A late 1st/early 2nd feels like the right return. Lundqvist and Sandin got the 1st but Addy needs to be re-signed. This one is gonna haunt the Wild.

MTL feels like a reasonable landing spot since they’ve got assets and Addy seems like the high upside player they’d target. Any team that needs a PP1 QB could be the landing spot tho.

Getting the vibe that both of these guys don’t have a path with the current team. Sounds like Hunt has the inside track on O’Rourke and Peart probably needs to see a spot to get him to sign after next season. IDK what’s up with Firstov, especially with Marat/Ohgren/Yurov on the way up.

Both guys have a little value and they should probs cash in on that. VAN is just a place holder.

Why is Addison being dealt at his low cap hit just to be replaced by Gustafsson? (Who will not sign that deal).

Play Addison. Now is the time. He’s an RFA, will be cheap enough, young, and needs minutes. Keep him. Also, I’d temper your expectations if you were to trade him.

He and the coach had a massive falling out. He didn’t play at all after the TDL and for a good stretch of games before. I want the team to keep him but it looks like he’s gone.

As for expectations, there’s a pretty solid record of these guys moving. They’re valuable.

Pens should inquire about Middleton or Brodin.

Don’t see Brodin moving but I think Midds is a guy they should consider moving for the right price.

Detroit will take Addison off your hands for St. Louis's early second rounder this season.

That was another team I had circled. Experience says Stevie Y like big D men so I went with MTL.

Thats fair. Both teams are in need of RHD but you're right SY has gone bigger. Another sizable factor has been mobility. I like the idea of Maata-Addison and would hope that Maata would elevate Addy the way he did for Hronek.
